lost child's father looked at him red-eyed, in his familiar tyrant’s way. The father was not a tyrant in this sense of the term. He was simply a strict disciplinarian as a parent. The father appears to be a bit stricter than the mother but together they make the perfect support system for their child.

From a paragraph in the story we come to knew that he scolded him very much. The para says something like "looking with his red eye in the same arrogant way"
This shows that the child remained scaring from his father. We can say that his father was a cruel one, in one way.
