he was the principal of Cambridge School for the young ladies. he was an efficient teacher .it was he who aroused Helen's interest in history and literature. he was extremely affectionate towards Helen. During Helen's examinations, he would read out the papers using manual alphabet and afterward read out what she had written so that she could correct her answers.

Mrs. Gilman was the principal of Cambridge school. He was a good teacher. He helped Helen so many times.

He teaches her history and literature and because of be Helen start taking interest in history and literature. He is extremely affectionate towards Helen.

During exams he read what she had written in her exam so that she can correct her mistakes. He is concerned for Helen about her studies. So, he suggest her that how good it will be if both the sisters complete their studies together. But the Helen and her family members don't like.hos suggestion. This creates a misunderstanding between them and Helen withdrawn from school. But her respect for him (Mrs. Gilman) was remains same like before..
