A fertile belt that includes most of north and east India.

Rich source of alluvial soil.

Number of ox-bow lakes over the plains.

Bounded on the north by the mountains and foothills of the Himalayas.

On east, lies the famed Sundarbans delta.

The Ganges basin is a part of the Ganges-Brahmaputra basin draining 1,086,000 square kilometres in Tibet, Nepal, India and Bangladesh. To the north, the Himalaya or lower parallel ranges beyond form the Ganges-Brahmaputra divide. On the west the Ganges Basin borders the Indus basin and then the Aravalli ridge.

1. Ganga Brahmaputra Delta is also known as the Sundarban delta

2. it is also regarded as the world's biggest delta

3. its forms due to the conference and meeting of two rivers namely Ganga and Brahmaputra

4. after forming The Delta these rivers divides into various currents before falling into Bay of Bengal these currents are as follows

Madhumati ,Padma, Alaknanda, Bhagirathi etc.

5. this is the most fertile delta in the world because of the presence of more water of rivers and coming under the three regions of Himalayas and the Ganga plain
