Bholi's actual name was Sulekha. Bholi is a little girl who damaged her some parts of her brain by falling from a cot. Her face is full of pock marks because of the small pox attack. Only her eyes was saved. Bholi never got new dresses all clothes she uses are from her sisters. Bholi's parents sent her to school, expecting for someone to marry her when she is a grown up. At school she stammered while talking to her teacher. At her marriage she opposes the greedy man. Everyone was amazed to see her talking without any stammering.
