The chemical equation for preparation of hydrogen using zinc metal with above reagents is given as:--

(i) With water-- Zinc reacts with water to give zinc oxide which is a solid compound along with evolution of hydrogen gas. The reaction is :--

Zn(s) + H2O(l)--------> ZnO(s) + H2(g)

(ii)With acid--Zinc reacts with acids like hydrochloric acid or sulphuric acid to produce hydrogen gas. With hydrochloric acid we get zinc chloride along with hydrogen gas. Reaction is:--

Zn(s) + 2HCl-------->ZnCl2 + H2(g)

Zinc with sulphuric acid gives zinc sulphate along with evolution of hydrogen gas.

Zn(s) + H2SO4-------->ZnSO4 + H2(g)

(iii) Zinc reacts with alkali like NaOH and KOH to give hydrogen gas with is characterized by bubbles and popping sound. The reaction of zinc with NaOH is given as :--

Zn(s) + NaOH--------->Na2ZnO2 +H2(g)
