When copper is heated in air it is oxidised to copper(II) oxide - the reddish brown metal turns dark brown / black as the copper is oxidised to copper(II) ions

2Cu(s) +O2(g)= 2CuO(s)

Hey friend here your answer .

  1. A copper is oxidized to black copper oxide by air when heated.
  2. The copper begins to react mare rapidly with oxygen from the air and a darker color can be seen on the surface of the copper
  3. Its an oxidation reaction

SO THE CHEMICAL EQUATION IS .

=> 2 Cu (s) + O2(g) -> 2CuO

I hope its help you my dear friend
