Resultan carbon dioxide passed through lime water in right tube producing a milky solution due to precipitation of the calcium carbonate

Ca(OH) + H2O + CO2 ---------- Ca(HCO3)

if excess co2 is added the following reaction takes place.......

Ca(OH)+CO2 ........CaCO3 + H2O.
