Answer:

Chemical reaction in which iron (Fe) combines with oxygen (O2) to form rust, or iron oxide (Fe2O3). The equation for this reaction is: 4Fe+ 3O2 → 2Fe2O.

Hope it finds you Helpful.

Rusting of Iron

When an iron object exposed in atmosphere for a certain time , it gets covered with a red - browny substance called Rust .

This process is called Rusting of iron or corrosion of iron .

During Rusting :

\rm\:Fe(s)+H_2O+0_2\longrightarrow\:Fe_2O_3.xH_2O

Iron metal reacts with oxygen( damp air ) to form hydrated iron (III) oxide.

Here , x= no of water molecules

There are two conditions necessary for the Rusting

  1. Presence of Air
  2. Presence of water

There are several Methods For Prevention of Rusting :

  1. Galvanisation
  2. Painting
  3. Tin - platting and chromium plating
  4. By alloying to make it stainless Steel and other Methods .

So , Rust is mainly \rm\:Fe_2O_3.xH_2O

and Rust is red - brown in colour.
