To write the chemical formula of a compound, Follow the steps mentioned below:

  1. Write the symbols of the radicals side-by-side which form the compound. The radical with positive valency is written on the left and the radical with negative valency on the right.
  2. At the top right of the symbol of each radical, write its valency.
  3. Criss - cross (interchange) the valnecies of the combining radicals and write them at the base of the radical. Ignore the charges.
  4. Remove any common factor in valnecies.
