Chemical name: calcium sulphate

hemihydrate

Chemical formula: CaSo4. 1/2 H2O

Plaster of paris should be stored in moisture proof container because contact of moisture or water with plaster of Paris with quickly set it into a hard mass called gypsum.

CaSo4. 1/2 H2O +3/2 H2O---->

CaSO4.2H2O

To prevent this plaster of paris must be stored in moisture proof containers.
