The chemical name for dry ice is solid carbon dioxide - CO₂ (S).

Dry ice is stored in an insulated container. The thicker the insulation, the slower it will sublimate. Dry ice must not be stored in an completely airtight container. The sublimation of dry ice to carbon dioxide gas will cause any airtight container to expand or possibly explode. So, proper air ventilation is necessary whenever dry ice is stored. Also dry ice should not be stored in a refrigerator freezer. The extremely cold temperature will cause the thermostat to turn off the freezer. There are also Commercial Storage Containers available in the market to store dry ice.

It's name is dry ice because it resembles ice. As carbon dioxide does not exist in liquid form, it sublimes straight from a solid to a gas. Hence, it is called 'Dry Ice'.

CHEMICAL FORMULA OF DRY ICE IS CO2 (s)

Solid Carbon dioxide is also known as dry ice. It is always stored under high pressure. Solid CO2 gets converted directly into gaseous state without coming into liquid state(sublimes). That's why solid carbon dioxide is known as dry ice.
It is mainly used as cooling agent because its temperature is very low then Water and ice.
Always store dry ice in an insulated container. Do not store dry ice in an completely air tight container because the sublimation of dry ice 2 carbon dioxide gas will cause any air tight container to explode. Always store dry ice in ventilated rooms. Never store dry ice in a freezer.
