Chemical name of plaster of Paris is calcium sulphate hemihydrate

Equation for its preparation is,

CaSO4.2 H2O ----------> CaSO4.1/2 H2O + 3/2 H2O

Gypsum (CaSO4.2 H2O) should be heated at temperature 373K

Plaster of Paris should be stored in dry place because if it comes in contact with water it changes to gypsum and then hardens.
