write the chemical name of washing soda.How is it prepared.Give the relevant chemical equation
Answers
Washing soda is synthesized through Solvay’s process. Solvay’s process involves the reaction of sodium chloride, ammonia and carbon dioxide in water. Carbon dioxide involved is produced through calcium carbonate and the calcium oxide left is used in recovering ammonia from ammonium chloride. At first, sodium bicarbonate is obtained which is then converted to sodium carbonate on heating. Finally, washing soda is produced by recrystallization of sodium carbonate.
NaCl + NH3 + CO2 + H2O → NaHCO3 + NH4Cl
2 NaHCO3 → Na2CO3 + H2O + CO2
Na2CO3 + 10H2O → Na2CO3.10H2O
Answer:
The chemical name of washing soda is : Sodium carbonate deca hydrate Formula : : Na₂CO₃.10H₂O .
Explanation:
It can be prepared by many processes but ,the efficient process is by Solvay's process .
Preparation : by solvay's process
Reaction involved :
NH₃ + CO₂ + H₂O ---> NH₄HCO₃
NH₄HCO₃ + NaCl ---> NaHCO₃ + NH₄Cl
NaHCO₃----heated---------> Na₂CO₃
Na₂CO₃+10H₂O ------- Na₂CO₃.10H₂O
The solvay’s process is an efficient process because the bi products can be reused in this process :
CaCO₃--------CaO+CO₂
CaO+ H₂O------Ca(OH)₂
Ca(OH)₂+NH₄Cl---------------CaCl₂+NH₃+H₂O
This ammonia and water can be reused again in solvay’s process .
