Answer :

Chemical reaction of the following salts :--

a) Plaster of Paris :

chemical reaction :

  •  \rm{CaSO_4 .2H_2O} \rightarrow{CaSO_4 . \frac{1}{2}  H_2O + 1 \frac{1}{2} H_2O }

when gypsum is heated at 373k , it loses water molecules and changes into Plaster of Paris.

Plaster of Paris(CaSO4.½H2O + 1½H2O) is a white power and if we mix with water then it changes into gypsum (CaSO4.2H2O).

b) Bleaching powder

Chemical reaction :

  •  \rm\:Ca(OH)_2 + Cl_2\rightarrow{CaOCl_2 }+ H_2O

when chlorine is reacted with calcium hydroxide then bleaching powder (CaOCl2)is formed.

C) Washing soda

Chemical reaction :

  •  \rm{Na_2Co_3 + 10H_2O\rightarrow\:Na_2CO_3 .10H_2O}

when sodium carbonate is reacted with water then it forms washing soda(Na2CO3.10H2O)

d) Caustic soda

Caustic soda is sodium hydroxide.

chemical reaction :

  •  \rm{2NaCl + 2H_2O \rightarrow2NaOH + Cl_2 + H_2}

when electricity is passed in aqueous Solution of sodium chloride then it decomposes and forms caustic soda( sodium hydroxide).

e) Baking soda

Chemical reaction :

  •  \rm \: Na_2CO_3 + H_2O + CO_2 \rightarrow2NaHCO_3

when sodium chloride is reacted with Co2, NH3 then it forms Baking soda (NaHCO3) and Ammonium chloride.
