When quick lime is made to react with water slaked lime(lime water) is formed.
CaO + H2O ----------> Ca (OH)2
When this lime water is applied on the walls it slowly reacts with carbondioxide in the air It forms calcium carbonate and water are formed thus giving a shiny finish to the walls.
Ca(OH)2 + CO2 ---------> CaCO3 + H20
