Cleansing action of Soap ..
.
When soap is dissolved in water, it forms of colloidalsuspension in water in which the soap molecules clustered together to form a spherical micelles. In soap micelle, the soap molecules are arranged radially with hydrocarbon and directed towards the centre and ionic and directed outwords.
.
When a dirty cloth is put in water containing dissolved soap, then the hydrocarbon ends of the soap molecules in the micelle attach to the oil or grease particles present on the surface of dirty cloth. In this way the soap micelle entraps the oily or greasy particle by using its hydrocarbons ends. The ionic ends of the soap molecules in the micelle, however, remain attached to water. When the dirty cloth is agitated in dispersed in water due to which the soap water becomes dirty but the cloth gets cleaned. The cloth is cleaned thoroughly by rinsing in clean water a number of times..

Cleansing Action of Detergent..
.
The cleansing action of Detergent is similar to that of a soap. That is, a Detergent works by making the oil and grease particles of dirty clothes dissolve in water though the formation of micelles. Detergents are usually used to make washing powders and shampoos.
