homologus series is a sequence of compound with the same functional group and also having same chemical properties in which the members of series may be branched or unbranched .

some important characteristics of homologus series are as follow :-

* members are of same general formula.

* due to some functional group members mainly have similar properties.

* they have same functional groups.

* members have common general method of preparation

example

methane , ethane, propane have are part of alkane homologus series .

methane= CH4

ethane= CH3CH3

propane=CH3CH2CH3

hope it will help you!
