The main difference between Formal and Informal letters is to whom they are sent. Formal letters are sent to people with high authority or letters which are written for an official reason. ( Ex:- Writing letters to Municipal Corporations, Post Office, Principals etc.

An informal letter is a letter you would write to a friend, a family member or an acquaintance.

Due to this there is a difference in format of the above types of letters

Hii
Here is your answer..

A formal letter is a letter written to an authority or organisation for a definite purpose.
A formal letter is mostly written for official purposes in a formal languages without the use of slang words.
For example - Letter to the principal of school asking for leave.
Letter to the editor

An informal letter is a letter written to family members, friends and other people known to us. There is no need for a definite purpose of writing an informal letter.
An informal letter does not follow any particular format and is written in a casual or personal manner.
Example- Letter to a friend wishing him happy birthday.
Letter to father asking for money for buying books.

Hope it helps!!
