when a carbonate ore is heated with a limited supply of oxygen into oxide, this process is called as calcination.
When the sulphide ore is burnt in excess oxygen to form oxide, This is known as roasting.

ROASTING IS THE PROCESS OF HEATING CONCENTRATED ORE IN A CURRENT OF AIR AT A TEMPERATURE BELOW ITS MELTING POINT.WHEN THE CONCENTRATED ORE IS SUBJECTED TO ROASTING ,THE MOISTURE PRESENT IN IT IS REMOVED AS VAPOUR.
