A contact force exists when two objects ate in contact with each other. It is a direct force and require a contact. A field force is a force which does not require direct contact between the bodies. In this case, the objects interact without touching each other.

EXAMPLES (CONTACT FORCE)

Pushing a car up a hill or kicking a ball across a room are some of the everyday examples where contact forces are at work.

EXAMPLES (FIELD FORCE)

Examples of force fields include magnetic fields, gravitational fields, and electrical fields.

Contact forces are those forces that occur due to contact between the surfaces of two or more objects.

  • For example : Normal reaction experienced while standing in an accelerating lift is an good example of contact force.

  • Another example is friction. It occurs due to contact between bodies.

Field forces are those non-contact forces that can exert acceleration over a distance without contact.

  • For example : Gravitational force, Electrostatic forces are field forces.
