1. Overlapping is a situation wherein one social difference is reinforced by another social difference whereas Cross Cutting is a situation when one social difference is enfeebled by another social difference.

Overlapping = social difference which overlap other differences are called Overlapping differences.
Example in US the differences between the black and the whites become social division.
Cross cutting = social differences that Cross cut one. In situation group, that share common Interest on one issue are called Cross cutting..
