hey mate!! here is the answer to your question. Meristematic tissue can be classified into three types on the basis of their position:-no.1 Apical meristematic tissue. No.2 Intercalary meristematic tissue and no.3 lateral meristematic tissue. Apical meristematic tissue is present at the growing tips of stems and roots. They are responsible for increase in length of plant organs. Intercalary meristematic tissue is the part of apical meristematic tissue which is left behind during growth period. They are short lived and convert into permanent tissue. These are present at the base of leaf or internode. Intercalary meristematic tissue may be present either at the node as in grasses, bamboo and mints or the base of Pinus leaves. They are also responsible for the growth in plant organs (length).
Lateral meristematic tissue lies on the lateral sides of stem and root or occurs along the sides of longitudinal axis of the plant. It helps in increasing the diameter (girth or width) of plant. Hence helps in secondary growth
