1. Subpolar low pressure belt. A band of low pressure located, in the mean, between 50° and 70° latitude. In the Northern Hemisphere, this belt consists of the Aleutian low and the Icelandic low. In the Southern Hemisphere, it is supposed to exist around the periphery of the Antarctic continent.

2. Equatorial low pressure belt is the cause of the band of clouds that you can often see at or near the equator on a satellite photograph. The Intertropical Convergence Zone or ITCZ is another name for the equatorial low pressure belt. This region is also referred to as the doldrums because it is a region where surface winds are often weak.
