Difference between surface water and ground water:
1. Ground water is the water that is found below the surface of the earth whereas surface water is the water found in rivers, lakes, ponds etc.
2. Ground water is generally drawn by handpumps and deep wells whereas surface water is drawn into a public water supply by an intake.
3. Surface water contains many contaminants like insecticides, pesticides, animal waste etc. Whereas ground water is less contaminated as compared to surface water because the rocks tends to act as a filter to remove some contaminants.
4. Surface water is not very high in mineral content so it is considered as soft water whereas ground water generally pics up some minerals while seeping through the rocks and so it is considered as hard water.
