a)Roasting involves heating of ore lower than its melting point in the presence of air or oxygen. Calcination involves thermal decomposition of carbonate ores.During calcination, moisture is driven out from an ore. Roasting does not involve dehydrating an ore.

b) The thermite reaction is an exothermic reaction between the metal and metal oxide. For example the reaction between the aluminium with the metal oxides, where aluminium acts as a reducing agent. The aluminium reduces the metal oxide most probably an iron oxide to produce ferrous and aluminium oxide.
