The world environment day is celebrated on the 5th of June every year. More than 100 countries worldwide join in the celebration of the world environment day. It was started by the United Nations Environmental Program in the year 1973 and has been continuing till now.

First held in 1974, it has been a platform for raising awareness on environmental issue such as marine pollution, human overpopulation, global warming, sustainable consumption and wildlife crime. World Environment Day is a global platform for public outreach, with participation from over 143 countries annually.
