sentence 1: it means that there are almost no mangoes in the basket.

sentence 2:It means that there are some mangoes in the basket but not many.

There is more difference between these two sentences. The first sentence tells us "There are few mangoes in the basket." In this sentence, the word few means some amount of mangoes are present in the basket not much more or no more mangoes. But in the second sentence tells us "There are a few mangoes in the basket". In this sentence, the word a few means some amount of mangoes are present in the basket much more.
