Answer:

Distance Displacement

1. It is the actual length of path followed by the body while moving between two positions. 1. It is the linear distance between the initial and final positions of a body.

2. It has only magnitude - it is a scalar quantity. 2. It has both magnitude and direction - it is a vector quantity.

Differences between distance and displacement :

Distance :

  • Distance is the total length of path covered by the body.

  • It is a scalar quantity, i.e only have magnitude.

  • Distance can't be 0 or negative.

  • Magnitude of distance can be greater or equal than the magnitude of the displacement.

Displacement :

  • Displacement is the shortest path from the initial postion to final position.

  • It is a vector quantity, i.e have both magnitude and direction.

  • It can be 0 or negative.

  • Magnitude of displacement can't be greater than the magnitude of the distance but can be equal or less than the magnitude of the distance.
