speed= 1.speed is the distance travelled by an object in a given interval of time .It does not have any direction

2. speed is given by the relation:

speed = distance travelled/time taken

3.the speed of an object can never be negative at the most ,it can become zero because distance travelled can never be negative.

velocity =1. velocity is the displacement of an object in a given interval of time .it has a unique direction

2. velocity is given by the relation :

velocity = displacement/time interval.

3.the velocity of an object can be negative ,positive ,or equal to zero .this is because displacement can taken any of these three values.
