Destructive distillation:
Destructive distillation is the process of separation of solid components from a mixture by heating in absence of air.
Ex: Coke, oils and gases are obtained by destructive distillation process.
Fractional distillation:
Fractional distillation is the process of separation used mainly to separate liquid mixtures based on difference in boiling points.
Fractional distillation is used only when the difference in boiling points of liquid components is less than 25⁰C.
Ex: Separation of natural gas, kerosene oil…etc done using fractional distillation.
If the difference in boiling points of liquid components is greater than 25⁰C, then simple distillation can be used.

Fractional Distillation:-

The method of separation of a mixture of liquids whose boiling points are very close to each other is called fractional distillation.

It gives coal gas, coal tar, coke, etc.

Destructive Distillation:-

The method of decomposition of a solid by heating it collecting the volatile constituents given off is called destructive distillation.

It gives natural gas, naphtha, kerosene oil, etc.
