Difference between northern plain and peninsular plateau :
a. climate -- The climate of the peninsular plateau is moderate on the coasts with heavy precipitation on the western ghats whereas scanty rainfall on the eastern ghats. The part of peninsular plateau being nearer to the equator experiences tropical climate whereas the northern plains have sub tropical climate. The Tundra climate can be experiences on the steep slopes of the Himalayan ranges.
b. soiltype-- The soil type of the northern plains is that of alluvial consisting of the silt that is brought down by the perennial rivers of the Himalayas. The deccan soil is made up of black soil called regur and patches of red laterite soil.
c. vegetation and wild life: The northern plains are very fertile and the food crops like rice, wheat and pulses are grown here. The deccan soil is not fertile, it supports cash crops like cotton, cashew nuts etc.
d. architectural styles-- The architectural styles of the northare primarily the monuments created by the Muslims. They were an amalgamation of regional styles also but basically Islamic in expression. The temples of South India are basically the legacies of the empires that ruled in the 11-13the centuries, The cholas, chalukyas, rashtrakutas . There are minute elaboration and a complete absence of dome like structures.
