Literal and figurative are two words that we often see in relation to language and writing. Literal language is saying exactly what you mean while figurative language is more elaborate and uses literary techniques or figures of speech like hyperbole, personification, metaphors, etc.

Plain language means what is spoken all the time and Figurative language means using words with a meaning and different interpretation.

The sole difference between the same apart from the one already written above is that plain language gives out dictionary meaning and expresses in a clear and specific manner. Figurative language is used in literary works where figures of speech like personification and paradox are used.  The literal words used are majorly used as their own meanings, while the figurative words are used as a word different from its literal meaning.
