The \:factors\: by \:which\: production\: of\\ crop \:can\: be\: improved \:are :
____________________

*Improve soil fertility: Make the soil more fertile for better production. Use manure in place of fertilizer.

*Adequate water supply : Irritated the field according to the requirements of crop.

*Remove weeds regularly : Remove the weeds manually as far as possible.

*Remove pest : Use the pesticides that do not affect the crop.

The factors for which variety improvement is done are:

Desirable agronomic characteristics: It increases productivity, for example, tallness and profuse branching are desirable characters for fodder crops; while dwarfness is desired in cereals so that fewer nutrients are consumed by these crops.

Biotic and abiotic resistance: Biotic factors are the diseases, insects, and nematodes while abiotic factors are the drought, salinity, waterlogging, heat, cold and frost which affect the crop productivity. Varieties resistant to these factors (stresses) can be improved to increase crop production.

Boost irrigation

With the growing effects of climate change on weather patterns, more irrigation will be needed. Average yields in irrigated farms are 90% higher than those of nearby rain-fed farms.

Make better use of information technology

Information technology can support better crop, fertilizer and pesticide selection. It also improves land and water management, provides access to weather information, and connects farmers to sources of credit.

Biotechnology

It provides an alternative to chemical pesticides, helping eliminate millions of pounds of pesticide applications worldwide. In addition, it has encouraged widespread adoption of no-till agriculture, resulting in better conservation of soil and water as well as decreased spread of disease.

Other benefits of biotechnology include:

  • Enhanced plant and beneficial bacteria and fungi growth
  • Improved soil ecology, recovery, friability, and fertility
  • Increased microbial diversification, population, and density
  • Decreased plant stress from environmental conditions
  • Increased disease resistance and suppression
