The cortex is the outermost layer of brain cells. Thinking and voluntary movements begin in the cortex.

The brain is made of three main parts: the forebrain, midbrain, and hindbrain.

The forebrain consists of the cerebrum, thalamus, and hypothalamus.

The cerebral cortex is divided into four sections. They are

  • Frontal lobe( Movement, emotions etc)

  • Parietal lobe( recognition, orientation etc)

  • Occipital lobe ( Visual processing)

  • Temporal lobe( memory and speech)

Thalamus: sensory and motor functions.

Hypothalamus: homeostasis, emotion, thirst, hunger

The midbrain consists of the tectum and tegmentum.

Tectum: Controls Auditory and Visual Responses

Tegmentum:  Controls Motor Functions and regulates awareness and attention

The hindbrain is made of the cerebellum, Pons and medulla.

Cerebellum is associated with regulation and coordination of movement, posture, and balance.

Pons: motor and control analysis

Medulla: Breathing etc.
