Force causes accelerations and Torque causes angular accelerations.Torque is proportional to the distance between the rotation axis and the point of application of the force (the point at which the force is applied).
Mathematically, Torque is defined as product of Angular acceleration and Moment of Inertia. Its formula is
Torque = Angular Acceleration X Moment of Inertia
Dimensional Formula of Angular Acceleration = M0L0T-2
Dimensional Formula of Moment of Inertia= M1L2T0
Putting these values in above equation we get
Dimensional Formula of Torque= M1L2T-2
SI unit of Torque is N m

Units. Torque has dimension force times distance, symbolically L2MT−2. Official SIliterature suggests using the unit newton metre (N⋅m) or the unit joule per radian. Theunit newton metre is properly denoted N⋅m or N m.
