Trees and our lifeline. No life is possible on earth without their presence. In the poem 'On killing a tree' by Gieve Patel, the poet uses a sarcastic tone to illustrate how a tree has to be murdered by uprooting it from its source. The general theme of the poem is human cruelty to nature and the ruin of trees. The trees grows by absorbing years of sunlight, air and water, and it cannot die by merely chopping at it as its source of strength lies in its roots. Trees always provide good to the living beings. By cutting trees, we are threatening the environment as well as the planet earth. The more we plant, the more we save the both. We uproot the trees which blesses us with many natural gifts. But our self interest had blinded us so much that we are unable to see its disastrous consequences. We have clinical methods through which we can cut the trees. But even then, they remains contemptible at underlying in it. So we must never cut a tree as it is not only pious and sacred, but also our lifeline.
