Electrochemical cells
* an electrochemical cell converts chemical energy to electrical energy.
*it is based upon the redox reactions which are spontaneous.
*the chemical change occuring in the 2 beakers are different.
*anode is negative
*cathode is positive
Electrolytic cells
*converts electrical energy to chemical energy
*the reactions are non spontaneous and starts only when energy is supplied.
*only one chemical compound undergoes decomposition
*anode is positive
*cathode is negative.
