According to Rutherford’s model of an atom, electrons revolve around the nucleus as in a circular path. But, electrons revolving in circular orbits will not be stable because during revolution, they experience acceleration and as accelerated charged particles emit electromagnetic radiations, they will lose energy in the form of radiation, which will lead to shrinking of the orbit and thus will fall into the nucleus. In such cases, the atom would be highly unstable and would collapse.

The model also failed to explain the distribution of electrons around the nucleus.

Answer:

This atomic model failed to explain stability of atoms. According to the model, electrons revolve around the positively charged nucleus. It's not possible for a long run as we know atoms are stable while any particle in a circular orbit would undergo acceleration.
