Since the end of the war up until its subsequent century, the Cold War had many effects on nation-states and targeted them in many economical and social ways, for example in Russia, military spending was cut dramatically since 1991 creating a decline in the Soviet Union’s military-industrial sector. Such a dismantling left hundreds of millions of employees (throughout the former Soviet Union) unemployed thus affecting Russia’s economy and military[1]

1. Creation of Military Organization:
(a) During the Cold War, both the super powers created military organizations.
(b) The respective super powers took up the responsibility of the security of the countries joining the military organization led by them.
(c) NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) under the dominance of America and Warsaw Pact under the command of the Soviet Union.
2. Bipolarisation of the World:
(a)During the Cold War most of the countries in the world joined either of the two superpowers.
(b) Such a division of the nations of the world into two groups is called bipolarisation.
3. Arms Race:
(a) The super powers started producing arms on a large scale.
(b) There was rivalry among them to make more destructive weapons and to acquire the technology required for the same.
(c) They soon realized that the arms race would endanger international peace.
(d) So, efforts were also taken for disarmament.
4. Creation of Regional Organization: (a) Developing nations created regional organization in order to ensure mutual co-operation on account of the super power rivalry.

5. European countries came together and formed the European Union.
6. South East Asian countries established Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN).
7. Non Alignment Movement.
