The flame-retardant modification of PAN fibers is of highly significant importance to prevent the potential hazards in fire accidents. The most common modification methods are copolymerizing with halogenous vinyl monomers, such as vinyl chloride (VC) and vinylidene chloride (VDC). The halogen-containing modacrylic fibers will release a large amount of toxic gas when burned.

Silk Flame Effect.  The silk flame effect consists of constant flickering silk which is lit from below by mood lighting. The silk flames are for indoor use only and they require a 240v power supply. These silk flames give off warm reds and oranges and yellows to give off an effect of a real flame which can be used as a decoration

Rayon is a semi-synthetic fiber made of regenerated cellulose. Like naturally occurring cellulosic textile fibers—including cotton, kapok, linen, hemp, jute, and ramie—rayon is used for a wide range of fabrics for household textiles as well as fine and utilitarian fashions

Cotton is a plant product and paper is also made from plants. So when cotton is burnt, it smells like burning paper. While wool and hair both are from animals, hence on burning they smell similar.
