Answer:

When we write the configuration we'll put all 19 electrons in orbitals around the nucleus of the Potassium atom. In writing the electron configuration for Potassium the first two electrons will go in the 1s orbital. ... Therefore the Potassium electron configuration will be 1s22s22p63s23p64s1.

Concept:

Electronic configuration: Electronic configuration is defined as the arrangement of electrons in different atomic orbitals. For writing the electronic configuration, we need to know the number of electrons i.e., the atomic number of the elements. There are four orbitals present in elements namely,

s, p, d and f

Maximum number of electrons in s orbital = 2

Maximum number of electrons in p orbital = 6

Maximum number of electrons in d orbital = 10

Maximum number of electrons in f orbital = 14

Answer:

First element, K (Potassium)

Atomic number = 19

∴ Number of electrons = Atomic number = 19

Electronic configuration of K = 1s² 2s² 2p⁶ 3s² 3p⁶ 4s¹

Second element, Cl (Chlorine)

Atomic number = 17

∴ Number of electrons = Atomic number = 17

Electronic configuration of Cl = 1s² 2s² 2p⁶ 3s² 3p⁵
