For better understanding ,
I want to divide hydropower plant in three parts,
1. Dam :- it makes for storing water . as you know, stored water have potential energy . hence, intially energy is stored in dam.
2. Turbine :- now, stored water in dam is fallen in turbine . we know, falling water have kinetic energy . And turbine convert kinetic energy into mechanical Energy.
3. 3rd and last work is done by Generator , generator generate electrical energy by mechanical energy . And now electrical energy produce electricity and supplied our home .

Hence, we conclude that,
Energy conversion take place in a hydropower plant :
Potential energy ⇒ kinetic energy ⇒ mechanical energy ⇒ electrical energy

Potential energy of water storeed in a dam is converted into kinetic energy of the falling water. The water falls on the turbine, so kinetic energy of the flowing water is converted into the kinetic energy of the armature of the generator connected to the turbine. Then kinetic energy is converted into electrical energy known as hydropower electricity.

hope it help....
