Calcium hydroxide is used for whitewash. CaO + H2O --> Ca(OH)2. after application of Ca(OH)2 on wall it reacts with carbon dioxide, CO2 and form calcium carbonate. Ca(OH)2 + CO2 ---> CaCO3 + H2O.
