45 years and 25 years

Father's Present Age = x

Son's Present Age = x - 20

20 years ago,

father's Age = x -20

Son's Age = x - 20-20 = x-40

father's age = 5(son's age)

x-20 = 5(x-40)

x-20 = 5x-200

-20+200=5x-x

180 = 4x

x= 180/4

x=45 years (father's present age)

x-20=25 years (son's present age)

Answer:

let age of father be = X and son = y

then, x = y + 20

x - y = 20 - eq 1

before 20 years

x - 20 = 5 (y - 20) -eq 2

solving eq 1 and 2

x = 45

y = 25
