Write the equation of the line that passes through the point (5, -6.5) and is perpendicular to the following equation:

y = 2 x + 5

Here the given equation is of form

y= mx+ c , where m is slope of line .

Hence line perpendicular to the line will have slope (m) = - 1/2

Now the equation of required line is given by slope point form : y-y1 = m(x-x1) , where (x1,y1 ) are co ordinates of the point through which the required line passes . Therefore, equation of required line is

y+ 6.5 = -1/2( x- 5)

2y + 13 = -x +5

x +2y +8 =0 is the equation of required line
