Answer:

(x+1) - 2x = 12

Look in the explanation to find the solution of the equation as well.

Step-by-step explanation:

In one variable

let the smaller number be x

the greater consecutive number should be = (x+1)

according to the problem, The larger of two consecutive integers is 12 more than twice the smaller.

which means we need to first find  twice of the smaller number .

so , multiplying the smaller number by 2, we get = 2x

now in the question it means , when twice of the smaller number (i.e. 2x) is subtracted from the larger number (i.e. ( 1-x)) we are left with 12

(x+1) - 2x = 12 ---------------- (this is the equation)

now for solving the equation ,

x+1-2x=12

⇒1-x=12

⇒ -x = 12-1

⇒ -x=11

⇒ x= -11

∴ x+1 = -11+1 = -10

so the two numbers should be -11 and -10

do not get tensed if u get negative numbers .

keep in mind that -11<-10 so it satisfies our given condition as well.

you can also solve this with two variables.

hope u find this helpful :)
