Let’s consider a nationwide system of storage lakes and pipelines. Like building the interstate highway network, it would be a huge, expensive endeavor. Building an interstate pipeline network plus water storage facilities would take years and billions of dollars. All states and the federal government would need to participate to get this financed and completed. It would benefit the entire nation by solving a problem that has been haunting the United States from the birth of our nation. California has a great need and should lead the nation in solving a problem that will get worse as our population inevitably grows.

Our school was closed for summer vacations on 15th May. It was very hot in Delhi. My parents decided to go to Niligiris. I too accompanied them.

We packed our luggage and got ready for the journey. We went to Coimbatore by train. The railway journey was rather tiresome. From Coimbatore we went to Ooty by bus. We reached there in the afternoon and put up at a hotel.

Ooty is one of the best hill-station of India. It may be called the queen of hill-station. It has many beauty spots. Next day, after breakfast, we were crowded with tourists form different parts of the country. People were making all sorts of purchases.

After lunch we went to botanical gardens. We enjoyed the expense of horticultural beauty around our heart’s content.

Niligiris has a healthy climate. It is a beautiful summer resort. The mountain slopes are covered with tall, green trees which present a caring sight at sunset and look very grand. The morning and evening hours are very pleasant. A cool breeze sets up and refreshes the mind. It makes one forget the oppressive heat of the plains.

I felt happy in the company of nature. The bright hued flowers, the clouds sailing across the sky and the snow covered peaks of the high mountains in the distance filled my heart with joy.

We stayed there for fortnight. I returned to Chennai reluctantly. The memory of my visit to Niligiris is still fresh in my mindWe need a national approach similar to our electricity grid. Local plans such as those considered to “Save the Sacramento Delta” do not increase water supplies. They only save fish. Ecological safeguards are important, as always, but they do not solve the water shortage problem. The problem needs to be approached on a bigger scale. It is bigger than any one state, and no state can solve this problem for the entire country, let alone for itself.

While California braces for a water disaster, Washington state is seeing rain wash away hillsides and bury towns. We often see too much water in one place, while another suffers a drought. While the plains are dying of thirst, millions of acre feet of water are pouring into the Pacific

Family vacations are the best times of any year. Whenever my holidays start, I start wondering which place is going to be our destination this vacation. This time, after a long discussion I won the chance to decide the destination. we decided to plan a trip to my favorite destination Shimla.

Shimla is the capital state of Himachal Pradesh that is a famous Hill Resort in India. One of my friends went to Shimla last year. She suggested me the best places to visit in Shimla.

We planned a long trip and had a proper schedule so that we do not miss any fun in the Hill resort. First of all, we went to experience the most fun filled toy train ride which is happening between Kalka and Shimla. After this, we visited a few temples through a short trekking. The treking was a great experience that helped us understand each other and help each other to complete the trekking.

We also had ultimate fun in a place called Kufri which is around 16 km from Shimla. This place has beautiful natural sceneries and we also enjoyed Yak riding at Kufri. One thing we missed in Shimla is the Ice Skating which is prominently open December to February.

We also enjoyed an evening in the Lakkar Bazaar. This Bazaar is a wood market in Shimla that has a lot of wood items that includes beautiful articles like walking sticks and decorative articles. We bought a few precious Wooden items back to home. Our trip to Shimla was an unforgettable experience. I wish we would visit this wonderful Hill Resort once again.
