FEMALE GAMETOPHYTE

female gametophyte in plant are similarly or equivalent to embryo sac

Formation of female gametophyte include following steps

1) megaspore mother cell ( mmc) undergo meiosis which results in formation of 4 megaspore

2) out of 4 megaspore 3 will get degenrates and only one remain active or alive

3) now this megaspore undergo mitosis

4) after mitosis one cell mo e towards micropyl and other towards chalaza

5) both the cell undergo 2 more mitotic division to form ( total 8 cells)

6) after formation of 8 cells one from each end move towards centre and became polar nuclei

7) the 3 cell at micropyl region differentiate into 2 synergids and 1 ovum

8) other 3 at chalaza end differentiate into antipodal cells

now at this stage embryo sac get matured and know as 7 celled and 8 nuclei
