Lakshadweep islands are one of the 2 island groups in India. They lie to India's west,in the Arabian sea. They are of coral origin. Lakshadweep literally means 100 thousand islands. although actually there are 36 islands ONLY and 10 are inhabited. Lakshadweep was earlier called Amindive, Laccadive and Minicoy.
