The Red Fort was originally red and white, Shah Jahan’s favourite colours. Its design is credited to architect Ustad Ahmad Lahauri, who also constructed the Taj Mahal. After years of negligence, when the white stone started chipping off, the building was repainted a red colour by the British and so the fort was called Red Fort, thereafter.
